Think About Education…

May 11, 2008 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Personally, I think there are some major changes that need to take place in the American educational system. No Child Left Behind needs some adjustment. NCLB has really made teachers step up to the plate of accountability, which is not a bad thing! However, on the other hand, it has increased anxiety among teachers and students across the nation!

Incorporating technology into the classroom has all around benefits! The Internet is here to stay, so why not utilize it in the classroom as much a possible. However, teachers need to be aware of the potential harm that is associated with a virtual education. Teachers must demonstrate with-it-ness at all times, constantly aware of what is occurring in the classroom!

My Website!

May 11, 2008 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

I absolutely LOVED designing and creating my very own website. I used iWeb on my Macintosh computer. This program has endless possibilities. I am a big fan of color and creative text, so I incorporated this into my website. I could see myself adding more of a personal touch to my website over time. Right now, its more directed toward my future professional occupation of teaching! ☺

Classmate’s Websites

I enjoyed looking at my classmate’s websites! Amber Simon’s title was very catchy, “Simon Says!” Bret Derr has a very interesting website overall. I enjoyed how he incorporated his personal and professional life all into one! Kelsey Simon’s website looks very professional and organized! Overall, everyone’s website was very unique and interesting and I enjoyed gathering ideas for my own website by looking at fellow classmates’ sites!

Favorite Podcast Presenter and Why…

May 11, 2008 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

My favorite podcast was Driving Questions. I enjoyed listening to this realistic podcast for many reasons. Issues were discussed that have a major impact on today’s educational atmosphere. The fact that the podcasts were recorded in real situations made them more interesting to listen to. Video was also incorporated with this podcast. Being able to “see” who is talking was important to me.

What Tools?

May 11, 2008 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Personally, I think I will continue to use a variety of the tools I was introduced to in this course! VoiceThread is a great way to incorporate audio and video for all different types of projects.  Personally, I know I will continue to update my website. Because I spent time and effort designing it, I will likely keep updating it over the course of my teaching career!

Five Things That Made Me Think…

May 11, 2008 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Wow! Where did the semester go? It seems like just yesterday we were setting up our del.ic.ious accounts! Throughout the semester, I learned a great deal from this technology class. Actually, TECS 390 was the first online class I have ever taken in my life. What a first experience! I discovered websites and tools I had no idea even existed! I learned how to set up my very own social bookmarking site. Delicious is a great way to access your favorite sites from any computer, any time! Voicethread is also a great tool I became very familiar with over the course of the semester. I created projects such as a reenactment of a science lesson, and illustrated and published parts of one of my favorite children’s books. Toondoo was another great tool I used. I made a cartoon about easing common anxiety that is often associated with using technology. Overall, children love cartoons, so using Toondoo in the classroom would very likely be a hit! During the semester, I created two scrapblogs. One scrapblog was about my personal life, while the other one was created for my tutoring student. The last, but not least favorite tool of the semester was learning how to design and publish my very own website! I used iWeb on my iBook Macintosh computer. This program is so fun, and user friendly too! I could really go on and on about the amount of knowledge I gained about technology in the course!
